The night before his crucifixion, Jesus went to the garden of Gethsemane with his disciples to pray. It was a night of intense prayer and anguish where Jesus sweat drops of blood as he cried out to the Father. While this was going on the disciples were sleeping instead of praying. It was this lack of prayer and vigilance that contributed to Peter’s denial just a few hours later.
The Gethsemane Coffee Roasters t-shirt commemorates Jesus’ words in Matthew 26:41, “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” We’re not poking fun, we would have been there snoring right along with the disciples. We just wonder, if there was one event that could have inspired a new coffee company, maybe this would have been it. If there was ever a night where a good cup of strong brew might have come in handy it would have been this night.
